Every Day is Cookie Day- Really!

Cookies rule, every day.

On Memorial Day (yesterday) I had a big, bold cookie-thon. Four recipes, four styles, dozens of cookies. Could any day be better? Hardly!

One of the recipes I made was from a recipe card that my very young self wrote out!  I  wrote on the card that my mom gave me the recipe, a family custom of always attributing recipes to someone.  Wow, I love reading these old recipe cards because of the stories they bring to mind and looking at these cards on MemorialDay made me remember not only of all those who’ve so strongly protected our lives and our futures in this country but also of all the people who gave me love and recipes as I grew into the adult I am now.

For instance, the recipe I mentioned above was for a peanut butter cookie and I remember how much I loved it and how great it felt to have my own copy of the recipe, so I could make it any time I wanted to.  It signaled my first tiny step of independence from my mother.

Another recipe came from my Aunt Dodie and just seeing the card with the recipe and reading her name brings back all sorts of memories of staying with her and my cousins. Memories include summer times when it was hot, sleeping on the beds moved outside for the season, watching the stars.  Dodie teaching me to cut carrots nicely so they look good on the plate because what it looks like adds to the appeal of the food. And now Dodie greeting me just a week or two ago with all the love, affection and acceptance that I could ever dream of!  All of that comes out of this one recipe card.  I think I might frame it!

By the way, I’ll be sharing Dodie’s recipe at the end of June when we get ready to celebrate National Ginger Snap Day (July 1)!  Can’t wait!

Which brings me back to “every day is cookie day”.  What day wouldn’t benefit from a cookie or two?  Yes, I’ll be responsible and take care of myself by not eating a dozen!  But one or two is just what Dr. Dancing Bee ordered.

Today’s cookie-link is to David Lebovitz’ blog and the Sablé cookie recipe.  Do you like butter?  Salt? French anything? Check this out!  Because David always does a superb job of explaining a recipe on his blog just like the pro that he is, I’m not repeating it here. But for something really, really special, click on the link above and shoot over there to get Sablé cookies!

Until next time,

Diana
