Because we’re starting up business in Nevada. Being in Nevada is wonderful for many reasons- the scenery, the history, the opportunities, the people (especially the people).
Now I’m adding SilverFlume to the list of what’s great about Nevada. It’s a one-stop portal for new businesses, designed with the support of the Law Lab from Berkman Center for Law and Society, Harvard University. So you know it’s rock solid, legally.
In just a single relatively short visit to the portal from the comfort of my own dining room table, I was able to register Dancing Bee Baking as an LLC in the State of Nevada, obtain my State Business License, reserve the name “Dancing Bee Baking” for my business, register with the Nevada Department of Taxation, obtain my Federal Employer ID number, create my LLC operating agreement, update Common Business Registration, and maybe even a couple of other items.
This wasn’t cheap, don’t get me wrong. The total cost was around $ 475.00. But it was quick, legal and the program itself steered me in all the correct directions. Not only that, but I was able to download pdfs of most of this, including my State Business License and Federal ID number, within minutes.
Finally, this was a huge help when I went into the Washoe County Community Development office, because I already had everything they need from the State, for my local license.
If you’re not in Nevada, check your state for an online business portal. In just a quick look at Google, I easily found portals in several other States. Or check with the local branch of the Small Business Administration (SBA).
